Some occupations that will expose workers to more metals in their work than others are, to name a few, construction workers, miners, electricians, rubber/wood/paper/textile industry workers, airport workers, dentists, hairdressers and painters.

Living close to a highway, airport, crematory and factory or in the same house as a dental clinic may lead to increased exposure to metals such as palladium, cadmium, lead and mercury.

Metal oxides are also present in tattoo inks. Titanium dioxide is not just used in white ink but in most colours to stop them fading and yellowing.
